![]() That left Henry potentially looking at eight full days off between starts. The group had already had an extra day of rest due to Thursday’s off day. His return to the rotation meant that everyone else would be pushed back. Right-hander Zach Davies started, his first outing since early April due to a left oblique strain, and pitched into the fourth. So when Henry entered in relief to start the fifth, it appeared the club had opted to flip flop the two in the rotation. The Diamondbacks had promoted right-hander Drey Jameson from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day, and though Lovullo had talked about using him in relief, he left open the door for Jameson to potentially start a game in the coming days. Their use of Henry prompted questions about the club’s rotation plans going forward, but the reality turned out to be less dramatic than it might have appeared. “I just believe enough in our team that when we’re doing the things we need to do we’re going to put up points against anybody,” Lovullo said. The Diamondbacks had just one other hit the rest of the game on a ball Jake McCarthy dumped into shallow left field for a bloop double, setting up their only at-bat of the evening with a runner in scoring position. Two batters later, Christian Walker singled to the left side. On Saturday, Ketel Marte connected for a solo homer in the first. The Diamondbacks collected just one hit in the final seven innings of a loss on Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia, then scored only two runs on seven hits in Friday night’s series opener against the Red Sox, who came away with a 7-2 win. “I know they’re going to get back into that thought process and we’ll get that line moving and put up some crooked numbers as soon as possible.” I know our guys are (going to do) it - can do it. “Over the past couple of games, that’s what we’ve been seeing. ![]() “I think we’re in more of a slug approach from where I’m seated, rather than just have that all-field approach and take what the pitcher is giving you, get on base via the base on balls,” Lovullo said. It has been, in his eyes, a recent trend. Lovullo saw a group of hitters trying too hard to generate power rather than letting it come to them. Manager Torey Lovullo tried to give what he felt was a reasonable amount of credit to the opposing pitching staff, but he could only bring himself to go so far on a day when his offense managed just three hits and did not draw a walk. Instead, the Diamondbacks lost, 2-1, their second setback in as many days to the Red Sox. By and large, the strategy worked: They combined to allow two runs, a performance that more often than not would lead to a victory. The Diamondbacks got creative with their pitcher usage on Saturday evening, using starter Tommy Henry in relief as part of a six-pitcher deployment against the Boston Red Sox.
